Winter means relief from the sun’s harsh rays and endless sweating, more outdoor fun and no more sunscreen. But it also refers to dry skin, tons of moisturizer and cosy jackets. Since a baby’s skin is more sensitive and delicate than adults, winter needs are far greater than grown-ups. During the winter, an infant’s skin is highly susceptible to irritations, infections, rashes and allergies.

If you are looking for ways to protect your little bundle of joy from the changing weather, you have knocked on the right door. We have five tips to keep your infant’s skin healthy and happy during the cold season.

Gentle cleansing

It’s not just adults who require a complete self-care routine. Babies need one too. Gently cleanse your infant’s skin daily. Use a cleanser that is baby friendly and made especially for baby skin. As discussed, baby skin is sensitive, and adult products cannot be applied to them.

The cleanser should be made from natural and organic ingredients. Rub the lotion between your palms to emulsify and activate the constituents and massage your baby in circular rhythmic motions.

Rinse the baby with lukewarm water, pat dry and slip the baby into comfortable infant western wear.

Moisturizer

The second step after cleansing is moisturizer. Take a generous quantity, apply it to the baby’s body using a feather touch, and pay extra attention to elbows and knees.

Similar to the cleanser, ensure the moisturizer has natural ingredients. The product must be Ph balanced to soothe the baby’s skin. Use a product with lots of oils and natural butter.

Baby wipes

Baby wipes are the saviours of all mothers. Keep a pack in your bag at all times. They are fruitful when you are outside and don’t have access to a clean lavatory.

Use wipes made especially for babies. They don’t contain any harsh chemicals or alcohol. These serve as substitutes when your baby needs a bath. They allow you to remove filth, dirt, and sweat and keep your child cool, clean and smelling fresh.

Hydration

Your little one might not ask for much water since the weather is pleasant during winter. But that does not mean your infant does not need water. Keep your baby well-hydrated at all times.

Sometimes, dehydration can make the skin dry and flaky. Ensure that the baby drinks adequate water whenever these symptoms are observed.

Sun exposure

A valid question here is how much exposure is safe for the baby. Let’s walk through this question. The sun is less bright during winter but doesn’t make extra sunlight safe. However, it is not advisable to expose your baby to excess sunlight as it may cause sunburns, especially during the initial months after birth. When going outside for a long time in the sun, keep the child covered properly with full sleeve clothing, full-length trousers and a hat and apply baby-friendly sunscreen on exposed parts.

Another critical point to bear in mind is the clothing. If you plan on buying your infant clothes online, conduct thorough research before checking out. Motherhood is a challenging yet fulfilling journey. Things may seem overwhelming at the beginning, but you will eventually get the hang of it. Take small steps and grow with your baby.
