Believe it or not, finding a reputable and reliable graphic designer doesn’t have to be an arduous task. One way to ensure quality is by checking out the logos of other companies they have worked with. More often than not, a recognizable logo will speak for itself. This is where my little tip comes in. When checking out a design company’s portfolio, look at the logos they have designed. Make sure you are familiar with the brands, but most importantly, look at the logo design itself.
If you don’t recognize the brand or can’t remember seeing it before, this could indicate that real-deal graphic designers did not create it. Most real deal designers would never want to be associated with creating logos for companies they do not recognize.
Of course, this is not always the case. A Website Design Agency will have a diverse client list that their audience might not recognize the brands. However, a logo in a good design portfolio should be someone that you have at least heard of before.
Another way to ensure that you are working with a real-deal graphic designer is by doing a simple Google search on them. You can also enter their name and the term ‘graphic design portfolio.’ You should be able to see examples of their work, or at least some kind of portfolio.
If you don’t see anything there, it might be a good idea to investigate further. Another thing you can do is ask the designer if you can see some of their work. If they refuse, this is a huge red flag that should keep you away from them.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that the designer has no work to show off, but it could indicate that the portfolio is not theirs because of how hard it would be to hide such information on the web. Of course, this also highlights if they are honest about their business practices and want to give potential clients all their information at once.
A real-deal graphic designer can have a portfolio showing the kind of work they do. If they are unable or unwilling to show you examples of their work, this might indicate that they are not the real deal.
Working with a reputable graphic design company can help you in various areas of your business. As I have said, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Don’t just go by what looks good, but make sure you know who you are working with and their reputation before doing business with them. Do your homework and make sure the company fits all of your needs.
As with any industry, there is always room for growth and improvement within its confines. Some sit squarely on the fence and do little to sway their clients in any direction. Others lean toward one side of the fence, focusing on one or two aspects. And then some try to do it all with varying degrees of success.
It is this last group that I want to focus on in this article. The world is full of graphic designers who strive for perfection but may lack some knowledge about what it takes to succeed in this competitive business. For these people, I want to provide a simple checklist that can help graphic designers find their niche and excel at what they do best.
