You have the skills, the capability and the capacity to explore, find and utilize your own unique inner resources. Focus on your inner-self and write down the things that mean the most to you and the awesome lifestyle you want to lead.

Start with your goals. What are the attributes of effective, realistic goals? Goals need to be SMART so you can commit to following them with diligence and intentionality.

SMART Goals Are:

SPECIFIC

Specific goals have a much greater chance of being accomplished than general goals. To set a specific goal you must answer these six questions:

  • Who: Who is involved?
  • What: What do I want to accomplish?
  • Where: Identify a location.
  • When: Establish a time frame.
  • Which: Identify requirements and constraints.
  • Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

If I wanted to set a goal to lose weight and get in shape, I would have to specify more than “I want to lose weight”, my goal has to be specific; for example; “I will lose 10kg by 30 June 2021 by walking 30 minutes everyday along the beach with Best Wireless Speakers and cellphone, as well as, working out at the gym 3 times a week”.

Let’s break this goal down to see how it meets the requirements of specific goal. It needs to address the six “Ws”:

  • Who is involved? This is me.
  • What do I want to accomplish? I want to lose 10kg.
  • When (what is my time frame)? I want to lose 10kg by 30 June 2021.
  • Where am I going to do this? I will be walking along the beach and also going to the gym.
  • Why do I want to accomplish this goal? I want to do this because I want to live a healthy lifestyle and make sure I am doing everything I can to stay healthy.
  • Which (what are the requirements and constraints)? I will require good quality walking shoes and a gym membership.

MEASURABLE

A measurable goal allows you to measure your progress towards achieving your goal. Set yourself criteria that you can review regularly (daily/weekly) to ensure you are on target. To make sure your goal is measurable ask yourself questions like:

  • How much?
  • How many?
  • How will I know when I have achieved my goal?

ACHIEVABLE

When you have identified your goals that are most important to you, you need to take the time to work out how you can achieve your goals. Focus on your goals and think about what you need to achieve them.

You may need to change your attitude, learn new skills or even find a second or third job to finance your goals. When you spend your time focusing on your goals, you will begin to see opportunities that you had never thought of or considered to help you achieve your goals.

Like any project you begin, you need to plan what you are going to do step by step to achieve your goals. It doesn’t matter how small the step is, it will take you just that little bit closer to your goals. When you plan your goals in this way and establish a time frame, there is a very high likelihood that you will achieve any goal you desire.

REALISTIC

A realistic goal can be set very high, but can also be realistic. You will know whether your goals are realistic as you are the only one who knows your potential. A high set goal has high motivation attached to it, therefore in comparison to a low goal, it will be easier to attain as you will have very low motivation to achieve a low set goal.

TIMELY

A time frame is essential to achieving your goals. If there is no sense of urgency to achieve your goal, it will never happen as your unconscious mind is not motivated to achieve the goal.
